Fruit of the Vine

"Fruit of the Vine" ~9x20 Colored pencil

We have grapevines planted below our garden. I walked by them almost daily, but one day the 'ordinary' caught my eye and I saw them as a painting. They are rendered in colored pencil with shades of gray and indigo, then several more layers of color are applied on top of this base.

Holmes County Courthouse

This is a graphite drawing of the Holmes County Courthouse in Historic Millersburg Ohio that I drew several years ago. It is a combination of photos I shot from the 3rd floor of a building across the street and an early print showing the way the building looked c. mid 1880's for detail reference. Notice "Lady Liberty" above the front entrance which is now housed inside the Courthouse on display.

Limited edition reproductions of this original graphite pencil drawing are still available.

Queen of the Forest

One morning in October I took a drive over to the nearby Wilderness Center in Stark Co. to do some hiking and picture taking for future paintings. It was a gorgeous day. Perfect. As I was nearing the end of my hike I heard something falling from the trees. Maybe nuts or seeds. I never saw what it was, but when I looked up, this is what I saw. One red tree in the middle of green and gold.

Turrets and Towers

These original graphite drawings are from a series called "Turrets and Towers". If we look up at some of the wonderful architecture around us we can see some real gems. The drawing at the top is the bell tower of the Millersburg Methodist Church. The second drawing is from the Victorian House, also in Millersburg, OH. If you look closely, you can see the Christmas tree in the side window.

Uncle Paul's Farm

"Uncle Paul's Farm" ~ 9x12 pastel

One day last summer as I was walking down our lane to get the mail, I was struck by the beautiful sky above my husband's uncle's farm next door. This painting is the result of that experience. It's in celebration of the 'family farm' that is quickly shrinking or disappearing from the landscape in our area.

October Hillside

"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower." ~ Albert Camus

What beautiful fall weather we've had in Ohio this year. I've taken many photos for future paintings that I hope to be working on during the winter months.

This piece is called "October Hillside" 9x12 pastel
