Art in the Garden at Expressions ~ Rain or Shine!

(As published in the Holmes County Bargain Hunter, June 11, 2015) Expressions Fine Art & Gift Gallery is looking to expand its series of events with Art in the Garden this summer.

The event, which will take place on the front patio of the gallery, is June 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The art, which depicts nature scenes or floral arrangements, will do well in creating a garden-party atmosphere. But to ensure the summer foliage can inspire each attendee, the event will also include face painting and flowerpot painting.

“It’s for adults and kids,” Cheryl Miller, one of the artists who shows her work at the gallery, said.

There will be a small fee for materials for the crafts.

Miller said many of the artists in the gallery will be featured in the event because many paint, photograph or otherwise depict nature in Holmes County. Miller said Nancy Franck makes jewelry featuring flower petals; Don Weisgarber, Vickie Boley, Marlene Mullet and Marlea Hershberger all paint local nature scenes; Cindy Bethel etches glass with flowers, trees and feathers and Jim Miller photographs sights in Millersburg. “It’s local artists,” Miller said, “and they represent the county well.”

A few of the artists will even be available to answer questions about their work during the event.

Franck, who produces N.E.wear jewelry and recently released a “Petals” line, will show her work and possibly do a demonstration, according to Miller.

“She made a pair of earrings for me out of rose petals from my garden,” Miller said. “It’s really unique jewelry.”

On N.E.wear’s Facebook page, Franck writes that each piece is made from dried flower petals and leaves found in her own garden, which makes each piece different from every other.

Miller said the event will also include refreshments usually found at a garden party, including iced tea, cookies, small sandwiches and fruited waters.

This is one of the first events held at the gallery and is an attempt to expand the gallery’s programming.

Miller said she was thinking about holding an event like this for quite some time. “I was thinking about doing it at home before we had the gallery,” she said. “June is a good month to do that, everything is blooming.”

In the future, she and others on the gallery’s board are hoping to hold events themed around the other types of art in the gallery, including three-dimensional pieces, etched glass, ceramics and jewelry.

Cultural Center Antiques & Art Fair

Next Saturday, June 14, 2014, The Holmes County Cultural Center will present an Antiques and Art Fair from 10AM ~ 4PM.

Several antiques vendors will be set up on the porch of the Victorian House Museum. Artists, including a few members of the Holmes County Art Group, will be in tents on the lawn with their art and other fine crafts. Included at the fair will be fine art photography, pen and ink renderings of local scenes, home made soaps, and jewelry made from antique spoons. I will be there with my landscapes, historical architecture and botanical art, prints, cards, ornaments and tiles. Some of the artists may be demonstrating their techniques part of the morning and afternoon. I'll be sharing my tent with Vickie Boley of World Cup Teas, LLC. She will be offering a selection of fine teas for purchase.

The Victorian House and Millersburg Glass Museums will also be open for tours. It should be a fun day. I'm looking forward to spending time with the artists and antiques dealers and seeing what they have brought to sell. And, of course, I always enjoy chatting with visitors who attend. ~ RAIN DATE:  June 21st.

Holmes for the Holidays Art Show and Sale

A few months ago I thought it was time to contact some of my artist friends to see if we could get an art show together again. The new Holmes County Cultural Center provided the perfect venue for a weekend art event around Christmastime. So, this is where I'll be, joined by 7 other accomplished artists for the First Annual Holmes for the Holidays Art Show and Sale. Let me introduce you to these very talented people:    Vickie Boley of World Cup Teas, who will be offering her fine teas for sale and tasting. She is also a wonderful painter in oils and will have some of her paintings and prints for sale. ~ David Ernst with his pen and ink barn art and whimsical cartoon portraits. He also has created several comic books which are a lot of fun. ~ James Spires from Wooster who does amazing pottery and sculpture and is well known in the area and in other places around the country as well. ~ Sharon Strouse will have her wooden rose arrangements which are so beautifully and creatively done. ~ Robert VanNatta III, a watercolorist who paints in a beautiful impressionistic style ~ Don Weisgarber, who is also a watercolor artist, with wonderful paintings of many local scenes ~ and Heidi Yoder, an up-and-coming pencil artist, who will have prints and also does commission work. Her portraits are especially lovely and so very realistic.

So please join us ~ Opening Reception, Friday, November 30, 2012 - 7pm-9pm ~ And Saturday, December 1, 2012 - 11am-8pm at the Holmes County Cultural Center, 434 N. Washington Street, Millersburg, OH (beside the Victorian House Museum).
