SIGN-UP DEADLINE, OCT. 4, 2016. CLASS SIZE LIMITED.
This class is for beginners as well as those who would like to build stronger drawing skills. The focus will be on creating realistic pencil drawings of natural subjects.
Through a series of fun and interesting exercises and projects students will learn to see as an artist sees. Areas covered will be line, value (light and shadow) and drawing what you “see”, not what you think you see.
The first 4 sessions will include drawing exercises and practice. For the last 2 sessions students will put their knowledge to work as they draw a landscape scene from a photograph (similar to the drawing above).

Saturday, February 13
Grades 1-3, 9:30AM – 10:30AM
Children
will begin this piece using a step-by-step pencil drawing then embellishing
with markers, oil pastels and watercolors and other materials.
Grades 4-6, 11:00AM – 12:00noon
Students
will learn about the effects of light and shadow to create volume and form
using soft pastels.
Saturday, February 20
Grades 1 – 3, 9:30AM – 10:30AM
A
step-by-step drawing of a peacock decorated with metallic and glitter
watercolor paints.
Grades 4 – 6, 11:00AM – 12:00noon
Beginning
with a basic drawing of a Victorian house, the children will let their
creativity be their guide and add “gingerbread”, turrets and other fancy
accessories to their houses.
Saturday, February 27
Grades 1 – 3, 9:30AM – 10:30AM
Students
will begin with a basic drawing of a castle with the aid of templates then add
whatever they would like to make this regal scene their own.
Grades 4 – 6, 11:00AM – 12:00noon
After a
quick study of photos of this amazing light display of nature, students will
use soft pastels to make their own winter “skyscape”. They will then cut out a silhouette of pine
trees or other objects to place in the foreground.
Saturday, March 5
Grades 1 – 3, 9:30AM – 10:30AM
As spring
is just around the corner, we will draw a warmer scene this week. We will do
the drawing of the rabbit together then the children will add whatever they
would like to their picture. We will be using soft pastels to give that “furry
look” to the rabbit.
Grades 4 – 6, 11:00AM – 12:00noon
In
anticipation of the arrival of Spring we will celebrate the season by
painting an apple tree in bloom. This project will be painted with watercolors
and the tree will be “drawn” with the aid of a soda straw. Lots of fun, proving
almost anything goes in creating art.
